New Era of Leadership -Innovating Tomorrow
Empowering Minds, Transforming Communities
Aspire for Excellence
To demonstrate its motto “Aspire for Excellence,” the Computer Science Society at the University of Makeni focuses on the following two key activities under the leadership of President Elect Madam Zainab Dumbuya:
Hackathons and Coding Competitions
Organizing regular hackathons and coding competitions will provide a platform for students to showcase their programming skills, collaborate on innovative projects, and solve real-world problems. These events encourage creativity, teamwork, and technical proficiency, aligning with the society’s commitment to excellence. Additionally, inviting industry professionals to judge these competitions can provide valuable feedback and networking opportunities for the participants.
Skill Development Programs
Hosting workshops and skill development programs on emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and blockchain, will help students stay updated with the latest trends in the tech industry. These programs can include guest lectures, hands-on training sessions, and certification courses, empowering students to enhance their technical expertise and improve their employability. By continuously upgrading their skills, students will embody the spirit of aspiring for excellence.
“I am proud to lead as President in a field traditionally dominated by men, and I am committed to proving that women can excel and innovate in computer science just as powerfully.“

Women for a Dedicated Computer Science Lab at UniMak
Despite the UniMak administration’s efforts to maintain our university’s high standards, the lack of a dedicated computer science lab remains a significant challenge for all students. To appreciate their efforts and give back to our department, I aim to ensure future students are not affected by this issue.
It’s also disheartening that, in over 10 years, no female lecturer has ever served in our department. As the second woman to lead our society, I am motivated to leave a lasting legacy. My goal is to mobilize global support to establish a dedicated computer science lab, symbolizing a vow for all women computer science students at UniMak to promote women in technology.
Please join us in this mission. Every contribution counts. Help us raise $200,000 to make this dream a reality.
Laptops4All Students
Dear Esteemed Donors and Philanthropists,
One of the significant challenges faced by computer science students in Sierra Leone is the lack of personal computers (laptops) for studying, both at home and in school. This situation can be quite frustrating for students pursuing their education in this vital field. As President of the Computer Science Society at the University of Makeni, I am deeply committed to addressing this issue.
Under my leadership, we are seeking support to provide laptops through an affordable loan scheme to students who currently do not have access to this essential tool. This initiative aims to empower these students to excel in their studies and contribute meaningfully to technology advancement in our community.
Your generous donation of computers or financial support would make a significant difference in the lives of these students, enabling them to pursue their academic goals effectively. Together, we can create opportunities for aspiring computer scientists and foster a brighter future for technology education in Sierra Leone.
Thank you for considering our request. Your support is invaluable in shaping the future of our students and empowering them to become leaders in the field of technology.
Warm regards,
President Zainab
